		<description>CHEESE GRATER POSTERS

	The task for this project was to design and take photos for a series of 20 posters based on only one object. The different meanings behind the object were separated into two different categories: connotative and denotative. "The denotation of a word or expression is its explicit or direct meaning, as distinguished from the ideas or meanings associated with it or suggested by it... When someone refers to a word’s connotation, they’re referring to what it implies or suggests—or to the secondary meanings or implications that are associated with it." 

For these posters, many questions were explored. What does it mean to be grate? How does one capture the sharp (cheddar) texture in a medium that is flat? How many puns can be in one poster set? Through research, mind maps, and many lists these questions were answered- 1. Be a grater and one is automatically grate. 2. Using different angles and zooming in and out will expose the textures in unique ways that are still interesting to look at. 3. There can never be too many puns.&#38;nbsp;
There were two main takeaways from this project. The first was how to use typography and images in a cohesive way. The second is exploring the deeper meaning behind the object so the design decisions made have a reason behind them.

		<description>CULTIVATE


	Cultivate is a gardening supplies company that sells anything you might need to make your garden beautiful. The task given was to create a new branding system including the logo, business cards, packaging, and product design. 
The different roots explored in this project all lead back to who the customer of cultivate would be and why would they want to purchase this brand over another. The style chosen was more rustic and included lots of detail. This is meant for gardeners who appreciate both the beauty of the garden and flowers but also the functionality of growing food. The attention to detail and love shown in each illustration represents the care taken in the quality of products that the company provides. 
The takeaways from this project were how to build a brand. Through that it was learned how to use type and drawings together in multiple ways to build a brand identity. The result was a design system that worked together across many different items.

		<description>GENUINE TOY CO.

The task for this project was creating a brand for a toy store. Genuine Toy Co. is a toy store located in Plymouth, Michigan that strives to be a totally unique shopping experience and is just plain fun to explore. The customer will be surprised with toys they grew up with but haven’t seen for ages, toys that captivate the imagination of young and old alike, science &#38;amp; craft kits of all kinds, real fossils and minerals, an entire wall chock full of award-winning family and enthusiast games, and so much more. 

The design of the brand created brings their ideas to life. The logo created is hand lettered using the pen tool in Illustrator. The colors chosen were to reflect the vintage feel of old toys. Howerever, it also gives and updated style that speaks to the new toys that children can explore. 

The takeaways from this project we learning how to take a customers passions and ideals and put them into a brand system for others to be passionate about as well.

		<description>TYPOGRAPHICS

The task for this project was designing the schedule booklet, tote bag, and website for the Typographics festival. Typographics is an annual design festival for people who use type. With a conference that is all about typography, it is important to showcase interesting type decisions and a fun color palette. 

In order to do that a strict grid system was used to create fun geometric designs throughout the booklet and brand. Both big and small type is used to showcase the different sizes and uses of fonts. One of the things that is truly beautiful in grasphic design is typography. The curves and edges of the letter forms, how they change and connect together. It is truly magnificent. Since those things are celebrated at this festival it was integral that the letter forms be the star of the show. 

The takeaway from this project was the power of the grid. With using a grid one can still have a fun and funky layout, but make it look organized and purposeful.

		<description>TOLKIEN CARDS

	The task for this project was to create a set of 12 cards based on a hero or villain. The hero in this story is J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings and a known philologist (a person who studies the history of languages). This project explores the deeper meaning behind who Tolkien might be. The cards have a vintage style and celebrate the books many have come to love.Every card is designed to speak life into the different ideas behind each of the cards, just as Tolkien does with his mythology. In Tolkien's writings, there is an emphasis on storytelling, lore, and the relationships the characters have with one another. These themes are explored throughout the card set as well. One of the avenues explored is Tolkien's values. The Value card represents what that would look like and feel like. A strong theme throughout his books is good versus evil and ultimately faith that good will win in the end. Every story must come to an end. The takeaway from this project was Learning how to make design decisions with meaning and intention behind them. The result was making connections between facts and ideas and creating a story out of them.

		<description>WHY VOTE USA
	The task for this project was in just three weeks to create a nonpartisan communication system/ campaign that includes: 3 - 6 images to be used together on social media, a vlog (30 secs) and a motion graphic (10-15 secs). In the United States, young people are less likely to vote than older generations. In 2024, voters aged 18 to 34 will account for more than 40 million, or roughly one-fifth of the American electorate. More than ever, we need young people's new perspectives and ideas to urge their generation to speak up and have their ideals acknowledged in this election.We found in our research that one of the biggest things that prevents GenZ from voting are obtacles in their lives. Gen Z wants their voice to be heard but they can have a hard time figuring out how to do it when it comes to voting. Everyone talks about how important it is to vote, but how exactly do you do that? It can be stressful figuring out how to vote, where to vote, and deadlines along with all the other stuff going on throughout college. Our campaign engages voters aged 18-22 and gives them access to resources and information so they can take actionable steps. This includes how to register, check registration status, deadlines, and what to expect. To achieve this goal my group and I&#38;nbsp; created a system that looks bold and interesting (if I do say so myself) with the use of colors, paper texture, bitmapped images, language, and typography.The takeaway from this project was Learning how to work quickly and efficiently in a group. This was a three-week-long project that went through the stages of research, concept, making, and refinement.

		<description>FLAWESOME
	Our task for this project was to reframe/ rebrand a concept in America. A brand is more than just the sum of its tangible parts, such as type, color, logo, images, and materials. It is also about the design thinking behind the brand- the ethos, myths, essence, promise, and stewardship. In this group project, we thought about America and the trends that we think need to change. This led to the birth of Flawesome (flaws=awesome)

People use Photoshop, filters, and clever angles to change the way they naturally look to get the perfect "flawless" look. We rebranded the ideal woman as one who doesn't care what the beauty standard is. We used peer pressure and defiant language throughout the brand to get this point across. Editors’ marks are used throughout to incorporate a visual language that middle schoolers would be familiar with and hits home the idea of editing ourselves.Throughout this process, I learned how to take an abstract idea and turn it into a real tangible concept. All the bits and pieces- the design thinking, marks, and visual language flow cohesively throughout the brand and the discovery of this process is the biggest takeaway.

		<description>COLLAGE POSTERS
&#38;nbsp;


	This project is a set of black and white collage posters meant to represent two opposite ideas. The left side represents the advancement of technology and going too far- too far to turn back and the repercussions of advanced technology taking away our humanity. The right side represents being unplugged but at the cost of not being aware of the outside world. One could lose sight of the real world to live in a place based on wishful thinking and lies. 

Although these ideas are opposite, they are connected together by a single plug and two fingers. These posters serve as a warning to the ones struggling with this every day without even knowing it. They could be accepting technology, oblivious to it, or ignoring it altogether. 

The takeaway from this project is to have a set concrete concept first and then gather the assets needed to make that concept come to life. Designs come easier when there is a clear picture of what needs to be accomplished.

		<description>BOOKWORMS PARADISEFor this project, when tasked to design a map, one could explore reality, or create something that was more than just a physical place. A map is defined as a drawing of the earth’s surface, or part of that surface, showing the shape and position of different countries, political boarders, natural features such as rivers and mountains, and artificial features such as roads and buildings. 

Growing up, children read stories and tales and form a connection to them. These connections of course weren't physical connections, but connections in their memories that, when adults, will transport them back in time to when they first read the story. When reading a book, one also gets transported to another place where time seems to run different. This map is where some of those books meet. 

The takeaways from this project were learning how to use hand drawn elements mixed with typography and Photoshop to create a cohesive piece. Using blending modes I figured out how to take an idea in the physical world and translate it into the digital. This map is more than just flat words on a page, but a whole new world to explore.
