PLAY HARDBALL

The task for this project was to create a motivational campaign from the perspective of the Detroit Tigers Baseball Team. The target audience was African American and Latino boys living in Southwest Detroit, ages 12–16. The deliverables included an Instagram carousel with six posts, motion graphics in three different lengths (7, 15, and 30 seconds), and three environmental supergraphics.

Our campaign draws inspiration from Miguel Cabrera’s words: “I'm the kind of guy who, if I look inside and they throw me a fastball outside, and it's a strike, I'm going to swing. Everything in the strike zone, I'm going to swing. Doesn't matter if it's a fastball, changeup, breaking ball. If it's in the strike zone and it's something you like, you've got to swing.” We used this mindset to motivate kids to take their shot both on and off the field.

Baseball teaches discipline, time management, and confidence — skills that help young players succeed beyond the game itself. This campaign highlights focus and resilience, reminding kids that every strike brings them closer to success.

With this in mind, we created a bilingual campaign that uses the power of storytelling to celebrate not giving up, even when life feels like a quick 1-2-3 inning. Our visuals and messaging are energetic, uplifting, and rooted in the spirit of community.

The takeaway from this project was learning how to craft a message that feels authentic to a community while motivating them through sports and shared values. This project is special to me because it combines design with purpose, inspiring the next generation to swing at every opportunity that comes their way.
